The English Pear: Christmas Lebkuchen

‘’I don’t know what to do! I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a school-boy. I am as giddy as a drunken man. A merry Christmas to every-body! A happy New Year to all the world! Hallo here! Whoop! Hallo!” -Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Lebkuchen are one of our favourite Christmas treats, but … Continue reading The English Pear: Christmas Lebkuchen

The English Pear: Cider, Sausage, and Chicken Casserole

“He Looked and smelt like Autumn’s very brother, his face being sunburnt to wheat-colour, his eyes blue as corn-flowers, his sleeves and leggings dyed with fruit-stains, his hands clammy with the sweet juice of apples, his hat sprinkled with pips, and everywhere about him the sweet atmosphere of cider which at its first return each season has such an indescribable fascination for those who have … Continue reading The English Pear: Cider, Sausage, and Chicken Casserole

8 Skin Care Products to Get You Winter Ready

#hellowinter #pumpkinspicelatteseason

‘Tis the season to look after those pores and to ensure you look glowy and prepped for those sweaty nights out in TP. I’ve chosen 8 products to make you look like the next Kim Kardashian of Exeter, on a student budget of course! One thing that is essential, is to remember to stay hydrated and I’m not talking vodka and cokes, but the good old H2O. Drinking water will keep your skin plump and rid it of any toxins that cause spots, as well as replenishing the skin tissues. Try carrying around a water bottle every day, adding fruits to it can make it a lot easier to drink and is a way to benefit from vitamins! Let’s talk about the elephant in the room…remembering to take your makeup off after a night out at Exeter’s finest selection of clubs. I know it’s annoying and when you’re pissed it’s the last thing you want to do. But do it. It only takes a minute or two. Don’t let your skin suffer from being clogged up with makeup, dirt, pollution and pieces of curly fry grease! You’ll thank me later. Continue reading 8 Skin Care Products to Get You Winter Ready

Winter Poetry Collection

Here is a collection of poetry written by students at the University of Exeter, all inspired by the theme of ‘winter’. Thank you to the Dead Poet’s Society for a lot of these contributions. This is in addition to the two poems selected in our print magazine which were Bebe Ashley’s “the water will take me” and “John” by Mohammed Patel. You can view them … Continue reading Winter Poetry Collection

Making a Statement: Scarves, Bow Ties and Necklaces

I’m going to level with you – I’ve never been very good at accessorising. I’m just more interested in swatches than watches. That was until I discovered how much fun statement neck-pieces are. Anything on your collar is in the prime position to be an ensemble focal point and just gives your outfit that edge. This can totally vary as well, as there are a … Continue reading Making a Statement: Scarves, Bow Ties and Necklaces

Pear and Chocolate Crumble French Toast

With Bonfire Night’s pulled pork, burnt marshmallows, cinder toffees and bitter ales behind us, there’s less than a month to experiment in the kitchen before it’s all about three bird roasts, apple and sage stuffing, pigs in blankets, goose fat potatoes, vol-au-vents, mince pies, brandy butter and port. Three gleaming weeks to nourish the festive spirit (nostalgia, comfort, indulgence and all) without a figgy pudding … Continue reading Pear and Chocolate Crumble French Toast

Snow Babies

I’m not even going to attempt to cover this up as ‘a review of the BBC’s latest interesting and informative seasonally appropriate nature documentary’…as I only watched Snow Babies because it had baby animals in the title! Though they have tried their best to make to it educational, I found that if you are as into nature documentaries (especially ones about little babies!) as I … Continue reading Snow Babies
