Creative Corner: Art and Wellbeing

Being in the midst of a global pandemic and with exam season closing in, means that taking care of your emotional and physical health as well as being kind to yourself has never been more important.

I make it a goal to check in with myself at least an hour everyday – be it during the morning, afternoon or evening. I take some to sit down, light some candles, put on some music (preferably smooth jazz) and create. Crafting collages, painting or drawing, are all hobbies I used to love as a child and have re-discovered during the lockdown in the first half of this year. Setting up small rituals around producing art has allowed me to create a safe space where I can de-stress and simply be in the moment.

Whether you are naturally nervous or the calmest person you know, I encourage everyone to take some time out of their schedule to do something that they love, be it singing, dancing, writing… it will bestow you with higher mental clarity in all areas of your life.
