Nick Mulvey will be visiting Exeter next week to perform at The Lemon Grove on Monday 2nd October. Embarking on a 15-date UK tour with his new album Wake Up Now, released on 8th September 2017, Mulvey’s return to Exeter is hotly anticipated after the huge success of his first album, First Mind, nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2014.
Born in London, Mulvey studied music in Havana, Cuba, before studying Ethnomusicology at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. He began to pursue a solo career in 2011 after departing from the celebrated band, Portico Quartet, who met while Mulvey was at university. Following the release of two EPs, The Trellis (2012) and Fever to the Form (2013), Mulvey released First Mind which receiced rave reviews.
If you are a fan of Ben Howard or Vance Joy, give this guy a listen. Mulvey’s music is shaped by vibrant grooves mixed with an acoustic tone, full of addictive rhythms and melodies. A comforting voice and poetic lyrics mean this gig promises to be an evening full of soulful magic; hopefully his set list will include favourites such as Cucurucu and Meet Me There alongside his exciting new release.
