Homemade Beauty Treats

Food and beauty. Sounds like a good combination doesn’t it? But why is it that we hardly make use of these two entities to create something more that will even save you a few pounds! Some may find it a hassle while others may claim ignorance. Well, these two recipes are neither difficult nor a chore.

Avocado Hair Mask

Avocados are a popular choice whenever the word beauty comes in place. Favoured for its nourishing properties, this mask is perfect for those with dry scalp and/or dry hair and it can be used weekly to hydrate, repair and strengthen while boosting shine and encouraging softness.

*use within a day

What you need:

One avocado- pitted, peeled and mashed

Two table spoon of extra virgin olive oil

Disposable shower cap

1. Whisk mashed avocado with the olive oil until combined

2. Apply mask on damp hair. Tuck hair in shower cap.

3. After 20 mins, rinse off the mask while massaging the scalp. Shampoo hair as usual.

Rose Water Toner

Many of us resort to commercialised products for our facial needs. What we ought to learn is how many natural substitutes there actually are available within our reach. Roses are not only sweet smelling, combined with water, they make a great toner as they naturally balance the skin’s production of oil while controlling excess oil and reducing redness of the skin. On the other hand, for those with dry skin, this toner hydrates and moisturise instead. Sounds too good to be true isn’t it. Not to worry, in case of failure to perform, you can always have a sweet smelling homemade rose perfume!

What you need:

20 Grams of Rose buds, preferably organic. Rinsed.

300 ml of Boiled pure distilled water

Strainer and Funnel

Spray bottle

1. Place rose buds in a teapot. Pour boiling water over and cover with lid. Allow the tea to infuse for 1-2 hours.

2. Strain tea and transfer rose water to a spray bottle. Store in fridge for up to a week.
